DALLAS — The NBA’s two best players are facing off in the Western Conference finals. Steph Curry, a revolutionary star with championship pedigree, is tasked with holding young superstar Luka Dončić away from his throne.
A playoff series against Curry has made Dončić, who plays mature beyond his 23 years, realize how much he’s yet to learn. He nearly waved a white flag after Sunday’s game. He’s shooting 46% from the field and averaging a team-leading six points in the clutch — those seven games the Warriors have played in the playoffs that come down to within five points with less than five minutes remaining. Overall, Curry is averaging 27 points, third only to Dončić and Miami’s Jimmy Butler of players remaining in the playoffs.
Draymond Green has played plenty of playoff games with Curry. He’s seen how his brilliance keeps these Warriors’ teams unflappable. His first points looked like some of his best fourth-quarter points — taking advantage of center Dwight Powell early by getting to the rack for a quick layup, plus a foul. Powell was removed from the game soon after. He hit four more of his first-half points driving to the paint, but also hit three 3-pointers in the half. His bread and butter.
