Updated October 01, 2023 3:14 PMPITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers entered Week 4 with some momentum off back-to-back wins but those positive steps were marred quickly by a deflating, 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. They still sit at .500 but will leave Houston with loads of questions to answer.
The Steelers offense moved the chains twice on the ground but their drive was cut short when Kenny Pickett lofted an interception deep down the middle of the field to former Steeler Steven Nelson, who returned the ball to midfield. It then took the Texans offense just four plays to get back inside the redzone but two misfires from Stroud brought up another short field goal attempt from Fiarburn, who made a 38-yarder to extend the lead to 13-0 with 12:09 to go until halftime.
Pickett and company opened a new drive at their own 28-yard line and picked up a first down with Najee Harris' legs but that was all and they punted for a third straight time. Stroud and Collins ran a masterful final drive, connecting for gains of 42 and 15 yards to set up a 39-yard field goal from Fairburn, who put his team up 16-0 at halftime with his third field goal of the afternoon.
Pickett and company took advantage of the favorable field position. Harris improvised and created a throwing lane for a scrambling Pickett, then ran for 32 yards to get the Steelers inside the 10. But at the doorstep of a game-changing score, the drive stalled and Boswell hit a chip-shot field goal to make it a 16-6 deficit with 5:50 to go in the third quarter.
