Rochester, N.Y. — A service marking the Stations of the Cross will be held on Good Friday in downtown Rochester. The service, which will begin at City Hall and end at the Federal Building, is a continuation of the downtown Stations of the Cross which were jointly sponsored by the House of Mercy, Rochester Pax Christi, and St. Joseph's House of Hospitality for 25 years.
The Stations of the Cross, a form of devotion tracing the footsteps of Jesus from his condemnation by Pontius Pilate to Calvary, have formed part of Christian life for many centuries and offer a way of following in the steps of Jesus on the way to the Cross, with pauses for prayer, reflection and devotion at various points., an organization inspired by Sister Grace Miller and Sister Rita Lewis, who are working to open a new shelter for homeless individuals.
The service will begin at 11: 00 a.m. at City Hall, 30 Church Street, and end around 1:00 p.m. at the Federal Building, 100 State Street.
