Millions of people are prescribed statins to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease, but many would rather take supplements instead. A new study shows statins are much more effective.

So, which is most effective? Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic set out to answer this question by comparing statins to supplements in a clinical trial. They tracked the outcomes of 190 adults, ages 40 to 75. Some participants were given a 5 mg daily dose of rosuvastatin, a statin that is sold under the brand name Crestor for 28 days. Others were given supplements, including fish oil, cinnamon, garlic, turmeric, plant sterols or red yeast rice for the same period.

"What we found was that rosuvastatin lowered LDL cholesterol by almost 38% and that was vastly superior to placebo and any of the six supplements studied in the trial," study author

As usual, their 28 day cycle is insufficient because we all know supplements take longer to work so this study is flawed intentionally. Then once they get u on these drugs, u can’t take supplements bc of “possible interactions”.

Tool.

Brought to you by Big Pharma...

How about stop eating junk food and getting some exercise?

The side effects of the statins are the issue. Who wants to take a pill and suffer to death? We don’t live forever and statins don’t change that. Deal with your immortality.

A new pharmaceutical backed study - no one is surprised at the results.

HAS OBAMA OR BIDEN OR THE CLINTONS OR THE BUSHES EVER GOT 300 PEOPLE ELECTED IN THEIR WHOLE CAREER LET ALONE ONE ELECTION CYCLE? PLEASE BE A JOURNALIST AND LOOK AT THIS OBJECTIVLEY. I AM IN AWE OVER HERE, SHOCKED!!!

70% OF 495 ENDORSEMENTS PULLED THROUGH... WITHOUT SOCIAL MEDIA , HE SAID VOTE FOR 495 PEOPLE AND OVER 300 PEOPLE GOT ELECTED ON HIS WORD. THAT IS ALOT OF POWER. AND MY FELLOW DEMOCRATS BETTER RECOGNIZE. HOW CAN THE DNC COMBAT IT IF THEY DONT HAVE A CLUE?

If people ate far less meat and exercised regularly there would be a significantly reduced need for statins.

Imagine that, science at work. How unRepublican

Study was flawed as usual. Supplements were suspect since they didn’t use foods like pomegranate, bergamot or Brazil nuts, which do work

Pharma shill

Millions of people have been taking statins for decades. While it reduces cholesterol, heart disease has not been reduced, at all. Billions spent, where is the result?

The question is, who paid for the study

Red or blue pill?

Everyone I know who has taken statin drugs for cholesterol, developed Dementia. They may be effective in reducing cholesterol, but at what cost?

“The maker of Crestor, Astra Zeneca sponsored the study” Thank you for pushing the pharmaceutical company propaganda, NPR. You guys are just super great at accurate news & info, just super great.

Because Statins dissolve cholesterol essential for your brain to function.

This is a very interesting topic to talk about! It is often not talked about enough. heal257FA22

'Statins do what they are intended to do'. Not exactly. They are intended to prevent death, not just death from heart attack or stroke. Turns out, there's more dead (all cause) on statins than those left uncorrected.

I hate to say this, but Duh. Supplements are great for supplementing, but they can’t replace most medications.

Similar to the study indicating the Covid vaccines have no side affects?

Pretty obvious what the conclusion will be lol 'The maker of Crestor, Astra Zeneca sponsored the study,'

More effective at making big Pharmaceutical companies richer. Also pretty good at destroying livers to require other drugs to be used. FACT: 1/2 the people who die of heart disease have low cholesterol.

Statins also caused type 2 diabetes in my husband as well as significant muscle weakness. They both went as soon as he stopped taking them and surprise, surprise… no change in cholesterol test results! Read Dr. Malcolm Kendrick’s ‘The Great Cholesterol Con”! Might open your eyes

You can’t drink alcohol 🍷 with statins they say 🙂

To those reading this and thinking your supplements are oh so much better. You DO know supplements have ZERO regulations on them? I can literally throw some dried grass in a blender, pack it in a pill and sell that on any shelf.

Try diet, veggies, exercise

Supplements are useless & can cause health issues (ex the use of beta carotene and vitamin E saying there is no benefit to taking vitamin E and beta carotene could increase the risk of lung cancer) unless the person is diagnosed with a deficiency. 🧵 1 of 2

Why is it either/or? Is there any evidence that people are not taking statins because of supplements? Really sick of this anti supplement propaganda. I take two of the sups listed. I’ll take statins the second my dr recommends it. Big pharm and big med are greedy beyond belief

Statins are more effective? But at what physical cost to the patient? Those side effects can be problematic.

No thanks. I’m sticking with my supplements which have been working.

National Pharmaceutical Radio?

The study was sponsored by Astra Zeneca. No need to read any further.

Take your meds people.

Some statins, including Crestor, cause Type 2 diabetes.

Statins can cause muscle weakness, and muscle damage. Older people take these and they are not necessary, and they have increased falls, and weakness. Statins are dangerous

Approximately 75% of people that have heart attacks do not have high cholesterol.

This tweet sponsored by (name your statin drug).

General exercise, strength training, a focus on whole foods and animal proteins. The stupidly simple isn’t advocated cause it doesn’t make dollars and cents

The maker of one of the statins, Crestor, sponsored the study. Do better NPR

Funny I use Red Yeast Rice (powder in a capsule) and grape seed extract (liquid) & have lowered my cholesterol from 225 to 150. 2 things it depends on the quality of the Red Yeast & the form. Hard pack pill form doesn't work for either the Red Yeast Rice or Grape Seed extract.

Where is the link to the study?

Spoiler alert - it’s statins over snake oil

Is the answer “Uhhhh statins. Duh.”
