Stars goalie Jake Oettinger back in net; Radek Faksa ‘very doubtful’ to play Friday vs. Jets | MDeFranks

Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger covers up the puck in front of Tampa Bay Lightning left wing Ondrej Palat during the second period of an NHL hockey game at the American Airlines Center on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Dallas.Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger will start his fourth straight game when he faces the Jets on Friday night at the American Airlines Center.

Oettinger’s fourth straight start ties a career high for most consecutive starts, a mark he set last year from March 13-18. He earned wins over Boston and Nashville, but took the loss in the pre-break collapse vs. Calgary. “We’re not trying to protect him anymore,” Stars coach Rick Bowness said. “We protected him for a while there and picked our spots and where we could play him, and that’s gone by the wayside now. We’ve got to keep letting him play in these big, important games.”

It will be Oettinger’s 18th start of the season, and the Stars have tried to shield him from playing on the road. He’s only made three starts on the road this season, as the Stars have mostly ridden veteran Braden Holtby away from the American Airlines Center. As if it were any question that Oettinger is in the NHL to stay, his status as a waivers-exempt player is quickly running out.
