A TikTok video explains the origin of lightsabers in the Star Wars franchise. Lightsabers have long been one of the most iconic parts of Star Wars as the signature weapons of Force-wielders throughout the galaxy. Unlike traditional swords, lightsaber blades are emitted from a ‘Kyber Crystal’ within the hilt of the saber and come in various sizes and colors.
The original trilogy of Star Wars films surprisingly only features four different lightsabers: Kenobi’s, Vader’s, Anakin Skywalker’s, and Luke Skywalker’s. These lightsabers alone make the weapon mythic, but the prequel trilogy of films really shines a spotlight on them. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace features the first double-bladed lightsaber with Darth Maul’s.
It is an interesting time to look back on the origin of the Star Wars franchise’s first lightsabers since Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader will be reuniting soon on Obi-Wan Kenobi for a rematch. Obi-Wan Kenobi will also feature the first live-action appearance of Darth Vader’s Jedi hunters, the Inquisitors. Although many Inquisitors are introduced in Rebels, the live-action jump will also feature their signature red double-bladed lightsabers that can spin.
