’s sci-fi space opera is on pace for a start between $175 million and $200 million, according to early tracking. While that figure won’t come close to dethroning “Avengers: Endgame” and its historic $357 million launch, it would still rank among the best domestic debuts of all time.” will more realistically land among an impressive bunch that includes “Avengers: Infinity War” , “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” , “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Jurassic World” .
Directed by J.J. Abrams, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” serves as the third entry in the sequel trilogy behind 2015’s “The Force Awakens” and 2017’s “The Last Jedi.” Abrams also directed “The Force Awakens,” which still stands the highest-grossing movie ever in North America with $936 million.“The Rise of Skywalker” picks up a year after the events of “The Last Jedi” and sees the Resistance again face off against the First Order, while tensions between the Jedi and the Sith finally conclude.
“Star Wars” will close out Disney’s unprecedented year at the box office. The studio shattered records with “Avengers: Endgame,”. Four other films — “The Lion King,” “Captain Marvel,” “Toy Story 4” and “Aladdin” — released this year have grossed over $1 billion. “Frozen 2” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” could add to that tally.
While “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will easily crush box office competition, it arrives against what could be a cinematic spectacle in its own right: Universal’s “Cats.” The musical, based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-running Broadway show, has received polarizing reactions to the trailer’s confusing blend of CGI and “digital fur technology.” How the internet’s levels of intrigue translates into commercial appeal remains to be seen.
Tom Hooper is bringing “Cats” to life with a star-studded cast including Idris Elba, Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Ian McKellen and Jason Derulo. It centers on a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, one of which will be selected to receive a new life.
Who would have thought that episodes 1-3 would be better than 7-8. And hearing not so good stuff about 9... sadness.
With sold out midnight sessions in Sydney. I don’t see why not
frozen outsold OMG flops... cats is coming to end rise of FLOPwalker
$150-$200million
There is a fairly large possibility that Disney buys tickets to their own movies in order to inflate box office numbers. So do numbers even matter anymore?
Is Variety cheering for a Disney Movie? That should count as marketing costs...
HAHAHAHAHA With all the empty theaters? I can get tickets for any showing where Im at. Stop.
Haha, good luck. I'm more interested in audience rating))) Some corrupted journalists will blame Russian fans again)))
Disney normally open 20% above tracking so TheRiseOfSkywalker open with about $225m which will be just above The Last Jedi but of course has to deal with the second weekend of JumanjiTheNextLevel CatsMovie opening against it previous Star Wars films never had any competition
Well... Yeah.
I know 70%people who won' watch the movie so were the money come from
So concluding installment MAYBE will make 25 mil less than the worst Star Wars movie of all time? Yikes
Probably lowballing it for maximum impact when it finally opens to 250 million or something.
