Years before The Mandalorian and more recent books and comics helped explain Palpatine's resurrection in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Emperor's return was set up in the canonical Star Wars timeline. Given the confirmation that Palpatine used various cloning techniques to give his corrupted spirit a new body, past entries in the continuity teased the Emperor's secret plans to prolong his life after death.
Star Wars Hinted At Palpatine's Return Back In 2015 One of Palpatine's closest Imperial advisors, the fanatical Yupe Tashu never doubted that the Emperor would one day return, much to the irritation of his fellow surviving Imperial leaders. As seen in the Aftermath trilogy, Tashu was resolved to fulfill his role within Palpatine's contingency plan known as Operation Cinder in the event of the Emperor's death as seen in Return of the Jedi.
Clone Wars Established Palpatine's Personal Cloning Facilities In the same vein, the knowledge that Palpatine had off-the-books cloning operations apart from Kamino has become much more prominent following The Rise of Skywalker and his resurrection. Mount Tantiss is featured in The Bad Batch as a facility with several human clone engineers .
