Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy says it's 'vital' for Star Wars to move beyond the Skywalker Saga.

✖ It's no surprise to Star Wars fans that the feature films from that galaxy far, far away are moving past the Skywalker saga, the studio made it clear with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that it would be a conclusion to the episodic films.

" sits right on the edge of the High Republic Era. It's a bit of an experiment for us because it isn't building within the timeline and the era that Jon and Dave are. It isn't necessarily going to be where features are. We are moving into a new era with what [showrunner] Leslye Headland is doing. There are certainly reflections of things that people are going to recognize, and it will have connectivity in Star Wars.

The next question in the interview was with regard to getting"outside the gravity of the Skywalker saga," something that Kennedy said is"vital," adding:"Just staying within the construct of George's storytelling, to keep chipping away at that, I think would be wrong. It's our job to step away now, but still have a connection to the mythology that George created. That won't stop. But we are moving on from the Skywalker saga.

Kennedy went on to note that they consider the publishing side of their output the"test kitchen" for new eras to explore in television and on the big screen. She revealed it's something they began doing five years ago, noting:"As we look at where Star Wars is going, we don't just assume it's only going to be on television and in movie theaters. That's another evolution we're having a lot of conversation around.

0commentsIn the same interview Kennedy confirmed that it seems like the next Star Wars movie that will make its way to theaters is the project in development from Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi, with Star Wars: Rogue Squadron by Patty Jenkins on the backburner.

Mark Hamil should've been given her job

We need both, we need Ray to meet thrawn and the child. Raising up from the first order and the Empire.

So... she killed Skywalker then gonna move to who? Landwalker? Planetwalker? Multiversewalker?

The Skywalker ARE Star Wars. That's why you're doing Obi Wan. That's why Fallen Order and every single SW product (wich is good and beloved), has something related to it. You know you fucked up with the brand. And you also know that to fix it, you need them. Take a hike ma'an.

Especially after what you have done with it.

set the new films in the old republic era and ill be happy !

What that mean is they will poach from the star was eu that they originally wrote off as fan fiction. Pick popular stories and characters from the eu then proceed to shuff there corporate activism into the story and charaters live they have been doing. Creativity bankrupt

She's right we need new characters in new time periods, that's why the High Republic slaps so hard

Of course you wanna move on after you and JJ Abrams destroyed it!

No shit, they have tons of great legends continuity stories to pull from, I'd love a properly adapted KOTOR pair of series that tell the comics story and games stories in 2 separate shows

What’s wrong with having both, you can have movies that continue the Star Wars legacy and you can still make movies/series that tell interesting stories within the Skywalker saga.

Isn’t that what they’d be doing anyways? The Skywalker Saga is done!

Is she going to hire someone to whack Mark Hamill, like in real life 😳

It’s actually Vital for Star Wars to move beyond Kathleen Kennedy

After they took a massive shit on the legacy now it’s time to move on.

Oh, I think Taika's going to make sure of that.

Considering she killed them all and destroyed Luke’s legacy, she’s not wrong I suppose
