An emotional piece of StarWars fan art imagines Anakin's soul leaving Darth Vader's body during Return of the Jedi's climactic scene.

Captivating new Star Wars fan art shows Anakin Skywalker's soul leaving Darth Vader in his last moments. Vader first appeared to audiences in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope as the franchise's most menacing and recognizable villain. Donning a mechanical helmet and armed with his signature red lightsaber, Darth Vader leads the Empire in an unmerciful crusade against the Rebel Alliance.

As the saga moves forward in The Empire Strikes Back, a young Luke Skywalker learns that Darth Vader was formerly Anakin Skywalker, his father. Anakin's backstory is covered throughout the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which effectively sets up his arc as Darth Vader. By the time the original trilogy's closer Return of the Jedi rolls around, Darth Vader's reign as a Sith Lord comes to a close when he turns against the Empire to save Luke, sacrificing himself in the process.

The story of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader is synonymous with the classic tale of good versus evil. And while Darth Vader's role as the villain throughout Star Wars is legendary, the good in him ultimately wins out, allowing his son Luke to see a glimpse of that goodness before Vader's ultimate demise. Depicting the scene with the soul of Anakin floating off is a beautiful rendition of closure, reminding fans of the Star Wars franchise and beyond that good always trumps evil.
