Star Trek: Picard season 2 actor Orla Brady explains why she plays both Laris and Tallinn. Brady made a big impression on fans when she debuted in Picard season 1 as the former Enterprise captain’s Romulan housekeeper Laris. And it was indeed a delight to see Laris return in season 2, as the show implied the potential for the Romulan to become the ever-reticent Picard’s love interest.
Unfortunately this possibly-blooming romance between Picard and Laris had to take a backseat, as the captain was once again called away on an adventure. Picard's newest mission of course has seen him and his crew flung into a dark alternate timeline concocted for obscure reasons by the ever-mysterious Q. But though Laris disappeared from the story after episode 1, actor Brady would return in episode 4 as a different character.
“The reason they decided, I think, to ask the same actor to play [Tallinn] is it's almost like [Picard] has once again stepped away. In Episode 1 he’s not quite been able to go there with Laris. He denies his feelings and then does what he always does, which is that Captain Picard is called for and he leaves. But it’s like fate will not let him off the hook. The person thrown in his path is strongly reminiscent of Laris. It keeps him in a zone of emotion.
Indeed Tallinn is not just “strongly reminiscent” of Laris but looks exactly like her. And it’s this resemblance that of course causes Picard – and by extension the audience – to react so strongly to the reveal of Tallinn as the Watcher.
But of course Tallinn has a bigger part to play in Picard season 2's ongoing drama than just reminding Jean-Luc of someone else he has feelings for. Her role as the Watcher is indeed pivotal to Picard finding out about his ancestor Renee Picard, who somehow or another is the key to everything that is going on in this dark and confusing timeline.
This entire series is a figment of Picard’s imagination. The same sickness he had in TNG.
Don't care, she's hot!!
