The High School Journalism Awards honor the best student journalism in Northeast Florida. Writing, photography and design are among the awards. Entries are judged by the Times-Union editorial staff.
"All of these students helped provide an invaluable service to their schools in the last year at a time when as a community we're still dealing with difficult issues, including the pandemic and mental health challenges," said Times-Union Executive Editor Mary Kelli Palka."We appreciate their dedication to keeping their campuses informed." Ultimately, Devil's Advocate swept, placing in nearly every category and taking home a total of nine awards.
Other notable work included Amber Bansal of The Bolles Bugle's news story on the Parental Rights in Education Act and its potential impact on private school policy. The story took first place in the awards ceremony's news category. The High School Journalism Awards — a longstanding tradition at the Times-Union which has been held for over 45 years — was hosted virtually this year.
