San Antonio Spurs guard Blake Wesley reaches for a loose ball during the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Chicago Bulls, Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, in San Antonio. News of Josh Primo’s sudden dismissal from the team came as a shock to everyone in the Spurs’ locker room.Though Wesley might have preferred it to come another way, Primo’s abrupt departure opened up minutes in the Spurs’ guard rotation Friday.
Before Friday, the most action Wesley had seen since the end of the preseason came via a slate of long practices last week with the Spurs’ G League affiliate. Not only did Wesley help provide the Spurs’ bench with some quick offense, he and fellow rookie Jeremy Sochan took turns defending DeMar DeRozan, the Bulls star who joined the NBA’s 20,000-point club Friday.
Branham was selected 20th out of Ohio State. All three of the Spurs’ first-round picks are 19 years old.“I am going to stay ready,” Wesley said. “Stay ready, and get better.”Backup center Zach Collins turned in his best performance of the season against Chicago, with 16 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes.
