A foot of rain is possible in parts of the Gulf Coast states as a stormy pattern unloads rounds of heavy rain across the region throughout the week.
Many streams and rivers have receded from their high water marks in recent days in northeastern Texas following deluges from April to early May. However, some of the rivers are still well above flood stage and the ground remains moist, so any additional rain could cause water levels to rise quickly. There almost always is a delayed response in river levels following heavy rainfall because it takes a while for runoff to reach progressively larger streams.
Rainfall farther to the north through Monday night will tend to be more spotty but still heavy at a highly localized level. The most significant flooding risk will be where all or most of the rounds of rain overlap. The overlap may be north of I-10 but may encompass areas along and just south of I-20. Where the downpours from multiple events from this past weekend to next weekend overlap, more than a foot of rain may fall in total.
