Manuel Bell went to Boot Lake, located about 4 1/2 miles southeast of Kake, to hang out with a friend around 4:20 a.m., according to troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain.
Bell tried to put his Subaru Outback in reverse, but instead put it in drive about 10 minutes after they’d arrived at the lake, DeSpain said. The Subaru went into the lake.Bell did not escape. When local medics arrived, the vehicle was no longer visible. His body was found floating in the water about 40 minutes later, they said.
