SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — For one police officer in South Dakota, the case isn’t closed until the food delivery is made.
On Tuesday, Officer Sam Buhr pulled over a vehicle and ended up arresting the driver for an unspecified crime. Buhr realized the driver was working for DoorDash and was in the middle of a food delivery, police spokesman Sam Clemens said in a briefing posted on Facebook. Since the driver was now out of commission, Buhr decided to take over, completing the delivery to Anastasia Elsinger, 24, who lives in a home just a few blocks from where the arrest occurred,“We had a report of an officer that was moonlighting as a DoorDash employee while on duty. That’s not exactly accurate,” Clemens said.
“This isn’t normal by any stretch,” Clemens said. “It’s not like we have officers that are out delivering food. But the little things like this, going above and beyond, helping people out, that’s the things that we do, probably more often than people realize. ... It’s those little things that officers do that can make a big difference.”posting a doorbell video“I definitely did not expect to have a cop show up at my door,” Elsinger tells the Argus Leader.
