You’re absolutely right. Oh, lord.
The pair quickly released an apology to “Page Six Style,” which reads: “We have a history as long-standing supporters of the LGBTQ community in many ways and apologize for our offensive comments at the fashion show.” “Many ways,” like … what? Calling queer people “my gays?” Going to drag shows? Employing them to do your hair and makeup? Fighting with your other straight friend on a Bravo float at pride? Having Andy Cohen as your boss? As ever, it seems important to remember that allyship isn’t simply saying you “love” a group of people whom you, at best, fetishize.
For her part, Petty told “Page Six” that she was hurt by Medley and Morgan’s comments: “It’s pretty disheartening and disappointing, especially in this day and age and being in New York City.” A number of spectators and RHONY fans have urged Cohen to fire Medley and Morgan from the show, but, uh, historically, big press cycles aren’t the sort of thing that gets a Housewife fired.
