So far, only a small number of Greater Cleveland hospital workers have lost their jobs because they refused to comply with the federal vaccine mandate for hospitals.

Akron's SummaHealth is at 100% compliance with a federal vaccine mandate for U.S. hospital workers. All of SummaHealth's employees are either vaccinated or have received exemptions.CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fears that federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers would cause large numbers of caregivers to quit or be fired — making staff shortages worse — have not come to pass

At University Hospitals, workers who are not in compliance with the vaccine mandate will be put on an unpaid leave of absence by Friday, the hospital system said in a statement.“We appreciate all of our caregivers who have worked with dedication and compassion throughout the pandemic in the care and service of our patients, and remain hopeful that more will choose to comply with the mandate,” UH said in a statement.
