A powerful winter storm is pummeling parts of the Central Plains with blizzard conditions and is set to drop a blanket of snow from Colorado to Minnesota through Tuesday, threatening widespread power outages and treacherous road conditions.

The storm will move across the Midwest and Great Lakes by Tuesday. It will then shift to the Northeast, where almost 160,000 homes and businesses are still without power Monday after receiving several feet of snow over the weekend. Blizzard warnings extend from northern Colorado and Kansas into parts of Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota on Monday. Between 2-10 inches of snow could fall in these areas, and some places could see more than a foot, according to the National Weather Service.

More than 25,000 in New Hampshire and nearly 15,000 in New York were also experiencing outages. Many power lines were grounded across Maine after the storm blew through, according to Central Maine Power. The utility said its crews responded to more than 700 emergency calls Sunday for issues including blocked roads and downed lines.
