Snow, cold temps return to mountains after unseasonably warm stretch

After a long stretch of dry and unseasonably warm weather, snow fell Friday at the Paradise Visitor Center at Mount Rainier National Park and in the Mount Baker National Forest.

The National Weather Service Seattle tweeted just before 2 p.m. that the temperature had fallen to 29 degrees at Paradise, 20 degrees cooler than at that same time Thursday and 40 degrees cooler than Wednesday. A cold front moved in across western Washington on Friday, bringing rain and improved air quality to the region. High temperatures dropped into the low to mid-50s for many areas.

According to KIRO 7 meteorologist Nick Allard, Saturday will be wet in the morning, but the rain will taper to spotty showers with sunbreaks in the afternoon. Sunday looks mainly dry, but clouds will increase late in the day. Highs this weekend will be in the 50s.Paradise at Mt. Rainier wherer the temperature has fallen to 29 degrees this hour. That's 20 degrees colder than this time yesterday. And 40 degrees older than Wednesday.
