Smith: Texans issues go beyond coach and quarterback

It's no reach to say general manager Nick Caserio's roster isn't on par with top teams in the league.When the Texans started a new season with a frustrating tie, the spotlight was immediately pointed at new head coach Lovie Smith.

Then there’s the fact that Davis Mills entered Monday ranked 29th among quarterbacks in completion percentage , yet Mills was Caserio’s first draft pick last season and wasn’t given any real training camp competition this year.Laremy Tunsil, the team’s best offensive lineman, was acquired by the previous regime and most rebuilding teams would’ve already traded the good but not great left tackle.

The offensive line keeps changing out names but the supposedly run-first Texans rank 27th in average rushing yards . Yes, Mills must be better. More accurate, more dangerous and more of a field general during defining fourth quarters.
