“I've always had a [skate] ramp in my backyard. My mom had numerous ramps in her backyard. Then my friends you know, in the neighborhood, built little mini ramps and stuff,” she explains about her skate beginnings.
Houston’s skate scene of today is far more advanced, with two world-class skate parks. There’s no longer a fear of having skate sessions crashed by the authorities. Skateboarding still has its outlaw appeal for those who want to grind their boards on private property and no-skate zones in business districts. But the support for skate parks has never been higher. Peltier says she’d still like to see more young girls continue to get involved in the sport, which continues to over index for boys.
Peltier no longer refers to her skate brand and “Babes on Boards” and now goes by “Girls Roll on Wheels” or GROW.
