Citing the coronavirus pandemic, the Sinclair Broadcast Group said it will reduce its workforce by approximately 5%, amounting to hundreds of layoffs across the company

"The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be felt across all sectors of the economy, something that can have a profound impact on a company as diversified as ours," a Sinclair spokesperson told CNN Business in a statement."From local businesses and advertisers to distributors and partners, no component of our business's ecosystem has been fully shielded from the impact of the global pandemic.

"Over the last year, we saw many of our peers make reductions en masse, a step we refrained from taking while we took cuts elsewhere, including in capital budgets, discretionary spending, and non-essential expenses."Ripley said those"proactive steps" meant the"staff reduction will be significantly smaller" than if the company had not taken such measures. He also said that"impacted staff will receive severance and all will be offered outplacement services.

I get hating the company’s politics but that has nothing to do with employees. I worked for Sinclair for 20 yrs until 2019. It’s a job. I had nothing to do with policy. When I left I made $12 an hour. Regular employees aren’t taking in big bucks.

We're hiring at CBS58 in Milwaukee. Have a look at our openings:

Sinclair destroyed the credibility of some local news stations.

You'll still have plenty of staff left on hand to continue to misinform the American public from all your outlets. Ya probably just got rid of all the ones that disagreed with the way you've done business lately, anyways, so chances are, they had it in plans to do already

What a shame! But since they have identical daily canned scripts mandated for their alt right propaganda “readers” at their various stations, why do they need human beings . just set up a fat orange robot with little hands & a multidirectional combover at each station, & voila

Thanks trump, this one is on you.

Boo hoo

TV stations doing poorly after pandemic forces people to stay home and watch TV?

It’s the flu.....

I guess if they actually created a real job, real innovation or a real dollar of GDP they would be considered useful. Same w/ most people in media work including CNN. The world needs plenty of people to work on road paving crews.....send them there.

Economic nightmares haven’t even started yet.

Sinclair should be dismantled.

America is beginning to see the Impact of 4 years of damage done by Trump. We need 8 more years to fix his chaos and damage done to this country.

Too bad, so sad. Is there a network that would hire them to tell the truth?

but didn't they said it was a Hoaxes too?

Racist

We know that we will have changed the course of this country when Sinclair and Fox go out of business and we can have real discussions about human issues. Just saying, because it won't happen anytime soon - the fascists have wrecked too many lives and normalized cruelty.

horrible

They along with everyone else are using the pandemic as an excuse to enrich the corporate heads while cutting jobs on the blue collar level.
