After hovering around 4,000 new daily coronavirus cases for months, a WHO official reported a rise to 20,000 new cases in Europe last week

Thirty European countries have seen infections rise in the past two weeks, according to the World Health Organization, which reports that a resurgence bringing Europe closer to the U.S.’s infection rate could push health systems to “to the brink again” as the region decides what reopening risks to take for the summer travel season.... WHO’s regional director for Europe, Hans Kluge, warned of a “very significant resurgence” in Covid-19 on Thursday , pointing to 11 countries that he said could “push health systems to the brink once again” if left unchecked. shows that, among others, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania have all seen an increase in new cases over the past two weeks.

the country’s previous single-day record of 34,203 set on April 25 as Texas, Florida and California try to mitigate significant outbreaks. Though he warned of resurgences, Kluge anticipated that the outbreaks will calm down in the majority of the countries over the summer.
