Should Chicago use cameras to catch drivers parking in bike lanes? Proposal floated to test idea in high-crash area

Drivers who violate the rules would have one warning, and if they commit again, would get ticketed. The pilot is scheduled to last through June 30, 2025. The second pilot would use license plate readers to enforce parking violations in commercial loading zones, with an aim to prevent double parking “that puts drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians in unsafe conditions, decrease vehicle idling and reduce emissions, and create a more efficient system for payment and drop-offs for commercial drivers,” according to the mayor’s office.

NO! Bikes pay NO road/gas taxes,nothing no license fees,yet drivers who pay for it all expected to carry their water!

I hate bike lanes. Makes it so much harder to see bikers. False sense of security.

We need police to video criminals I could care less where folks park. Trust me I am not alone. Police the folks shooting at folks, robbing people or car jacking please and thanks.

I think drivers can park there once they stop drinking and driving, stop causing thousands of fatalities annually, stop maiming pedestrians, stop blowing stop signs. But they won’t. So they should be ticketed.

Maybe once bicycles have to be licensed like cars. Vehicles pay to for use of the streets & parking. Pony up or stuff it.
