After an initial drop in suicide-related emergency department visits at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDC are reporting that suspected teenage suicide attempts rose in 2021, with the increase driven by a dramatic uptick among teenage girls.

"Adolescent females have been spending more time at home due to physical distancing and remote schooling allowing them to express mental health distress and talk more about suicidal thoughts and behaviors than ever before," said Dr. Christine Yu Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention."[This has prompted] adult figures in their lives to take them to the [emergency department].

"Before puberty, the rate of depression and anxiety is the same for males and females, but after puberty it increases for females," said Dr. Yalda Safai, a psychiatrist in New York City and contributor to the ABC News Medical Unit."All the risk factors for depression have been exaggerated by the pandemic."

Friday's CDC report catalogued a significant increase in emergency department visits among teenage girls, though some of that could be explained by the fact girls are more likely to disclose suicidal thoughts and seek medical care.

It's not possible to ban social media use? It would be like parents banning TV in my day.

Here in Ontario our schools have been closed since April, after being closed for January and a lot of February, but our “experts” keep saying the kids are alright, so they must be.

Well when you bombard kids with all the woke bs that not even adults should have to deal with, you get a rise in suicidal teens and mentally unstable adults

Right. Like this wasn’t a predictable outcome of locking teens up and canceling everything during the pandemic.

That makes me sad. Boys and young men need to be taught at a young age to respect and speak up if girls are being bullied or mistreated.

If we can detect, treat, and prevent COVID19 in less than a year, we can do the same for our children’s mentalhealth We have the tools, talent, and treatments to do this. OkayToSay

any changes.

It could be the pressures put on them by CRT! Can you imagine the stress of trying to figure that out as a child?

Weird, it’s almost like closing schools and locking everything down isn’t good for mental healt.

First.Follow fasten to their mentally change.

This is devastating!! The rise in teen suicide HAS to be addressed as soon as possible!

This is no surprise. The effects of the pandemic has everyone feeling more down than usual, which is bad news for people who were already low to begin with. On the upside, flu-related deaths have gone down.

Men are the worst

CDC warns about spike in RSV cases across SouthA common cold virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is spreading across the South, causing an unusual wave of late spring disease, the US Centers for Disease Control and prevention said Thursday. The South you say? Don’t care. Totally not surprising. We will see an increase in RSV this year because of people de-masking now. More people will be susceptible to many respiratory viruses because they did not contract them last year and subsequently don’t have circulating antibodies. Yes. It's because of quarantine and now people can be free again it makes sense. Please to all parents it's not new but take your infant to the doc ASAP when they start having fever, cough, or ill in anyway to help them get treated ASAP.

22 states ask Supreme Court to uphold CDC eviction banAttorneys general from 22 states on Friday asked the Supreme Court to uphold the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's temporary federal eviction moratorium, Reuters reports. Why it matters: Over 11 million people are behind on rent, putting them at risk of losing their homes, according to CNBC.Get market news worthy of your time with Axios Markets. Subscribe for free.'An unprecedented wave of mass evictions - amid the embryonic stages of the postpandemic recovery — would be catastrophic,' Ok.. These people obviously most likely had jobs to be approved for a rental application. So it seems to reason if they weren’t working they’ve been collecting unemployment plus federal benefits.. And the idea that the CDC has this kind of jurisdiction is ridiculous You must figure out how to pay where you live. Nothing is free in this world despite what the migrants tell you.
