At least two people are dead in Louisiana after extreme overnight weather, authorities say. A level 3 severe weather threat has been issued for parts of the Gulf Coast.

Emergency officials in St. Landry Parish report one death and seven injuries after a possible tornado hit early Saturday, Jessie Bellard, parish president, said in a statement.On Friday night, a 48-year-old Shreveport man was killed when a tree fell on a mobile home, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said in a release.The greatest threat for severe storms has diminished. A level 2 out of 5 threat still existed across portions of southern Georgia and Florida on Saturday afternoon.

The largest severe storm threat will be possible through the morning hours, when damaging wind gusts will be the main hazard; an isolated tornado or water spout cannot be ruled out. Possible tornado hits early SaturdayThe St. Landry Parish statement said a possible tornado hit at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, touching down on Bolden Road near a state wildlife management area.
