ServiceNow BrandVoice: A Leap, A Crash, And A Life-Lesson In Leadership

After my sudden breakup, I deliberately turned inward, taking some downtime to reflect on my next move. That didn’t come easy for me. I prefer to be on the go. I remember fighting the urge to call the firm that I had just left and ask for my old job back.

When I model compassionate behavior that supports my well-being, it empowers employees to do the same. Case in point: Zoom fatigue. We’re all experiencing it. For meetings that don’t require me to be on camera, I opt for a walk and talk call instead. I encourage my teams to do the same. Luckily, I had saved enough money for my move to California, so I followed my curiosity and set off on an adventure. I started in Mexico, then set off to explore Australia and New Zealand. It was in Queensland where I dipped my toes into something else I was curious about: skydiving! I love a calculated risk and decided it was one worth taking. I wasn’t wrong.

Running back to my old job in New York would have been the easy thing to do. It took courage to step back, reevaluate my life, and choose a different direction.
