PARIS—There won’t be a 24th Grand Slam singles title for Serena Williams in 2020 after all.
Williams, 39, withdrew from the French Open on Wednesday with a recurrence of the Achilles tendon injury that troubled her during the U.S. Open and then caused her to skip a Roland-Garros tuneup in Rome earlier this month. With Williams expecting to require four to six weeks of recovery, her pandemic-shortened season is likely over.
