The Senate passed a bill Tuesday to ensure a fund to compensate victims of the Sept. 11 attacks never runs out of money — and that first responders won't have to return to Congress to plead for more funding.
The bill, which was passed by a vote of 97-2, would authorize money for the fund through 2092, essentially making it permanent. Stewart also blasted Congress as a whole when he testified before a House committee on the issue last month, for requiring the act to be reauthorized, resulting in ailing first responders having to make repeated trips to the Capitol.
Jon Stewart is about the best moral compass we have in this country. May a heavy burden have been lifted off these long suffering families with the passage of this bill. JonStewart
Thank you senatemajldr for all you did to get this passed seems like they left you out
John Stewart has made all of our hearts a great deal more peaceful just by helping these great heroes and their families. Each and every Amer. lost a great deal of ourselves on 9/11 and know how our heroes-OUR REAL HEROES-stepped in at one of the most horrible times in history.
Eternal slush fund, let the CORRUPTION BEGIN!!
Anybody can be cool… but just some can be Jon Stewart cool. JonStewart
Keep patting yourselfs on the back, only took 18 years shameful NeverForget 🙏👮 🇺🇸
FINALLY...!!! Thnx to not only Jon for being in a position to help with his voice because he's a recognized television personality, but to ALL the rest who helped these firemen, policemen, EMT's, and every 1st responder out there...!!! 💖 🥇 💪 🙏
Heinous people.
Good job Jon Stewart that's the way to stick up for American people
So I guess 1st responders throughout the country can live vicariously through these guys.
WillieGeist Little pressure was there RandPaul
Jon Stewart and the HEROES of 9/11 did all that. Those stupid Senators did nothing but try to block the vote. Republicans and Democrats, they are all guilty. I wish Jon Stewart would run for something.
Shame on 2 Republicans voting against: Rand Paul and mike Lee The final defeated 2 amendments: one from Sen. Mike Lee, R.-Utah, would have restricted the authorization to 10 years; the other, from Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky, would have required offsets for the money spent on the fund
Wonderful news!
Jon Stewart is the real hero for these heroes 911FirstResponders NeverForget
Well done Jon Stewart. When the anniversary comes in a couple months I hope you will remind Republicans that they tried to prevent it when they start posting about never forget
Thank you Jon Stewart!
Senators Mike Lee & Rand Paul care more about tax cuts for billionaires. They don't care about American Heroes, 9/11 First Responders! The terms of both senators end in 2023. Remember & Vote Them Out! UnfitForOffice VoteOutLMikeLee VoteOutRandPaul Remember911
rolandsmartin Rand Paul (R) and Mike Lee (R) were the only senators who voted against the legislation.
While 45 was on vacation wasting tax payer money. 💰

Wonderful news. Let's hope DT signs it! As for Paul & Lee, they'll always be remembered for this.
What happened? Was Rand Paul off at the bank cashing those RUssian checks or something?
And probably we need to remember those guys who voted 'NO' ?
Thank God.
Good. 🙂
Finally.
