The West Valley City Democrat, considered one of the most powerful politicians on Capitol Hill, is already recovering from a shoulder and head injury she sustained in a fall last week.

It was the injury that led to the discovery of her cancer diagnosis.

"Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. I have felt them all, and I greatly appreciate all of you and your support," Sen. Mayne said in a statement Friday. "This past week has been difficult for my family and me as I have been forced to focus on my health amidst unfortunate news. I had an accident where I broke my shoulder, and during the medical analysis, I discovered that I have cancer. With the support of my family and friends, I will undergo the proper treatment regimen suggested by my doctors. I am hopeful to return to the Legislature soon where I can be with all of you, my friends, and colleagues. I have unfinished work to do.

"We are deeply saddened by Sen. Mayne's diagnosis. She is a close friend and confidant. Karen is integral to the Senate and loved by everyone. We offer our love and support to our dear colleague and friend. She is a strong, resilient leader of the minority caucus and has the entire Senate's unwavering support," the Senate Majority and Minority Caucuses said in a statement."We pray for strength and comfort for her and her family as she undertakes this battle.

One of her Republican colleagues, Sen. Jerry Stevenson, R-Layton, carried one of her bills in the legislature in her absence, presenting it to a Senate committee for her. It passed unanimously.

Senate Republican filibuster blocks Democrats' voting rights billVoting legislation that Democrats and civil rights groups argue is vital for protecting democracy has been blocked by a Republican filibuster. Yet it’s not racist to need ID to stand in line for 6 hours to get a forced Covid test. If needing ID to vote is racist, then it’s racist to rent an apartment or buy a home, racist to board an airplane, even every store isn’t he US is racist, ESPECIALLY if you need CIGGS or beer 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The real question is why did Reps vote for these things just a few years ago and now -ZERO- support it now? And if you say it's a dem plot, you haven't read it or understand what was passed before.

Senate Dems' filibuster ambitions fall shortSenate Democrats failed in a Wednesday night bid to weaken the filibuster to pass elections and voting reform thanks to opposition from centrists Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are not centrists because they are far, far right republicans. Centrists my eye. They are Republicans. They proved it tonight.

Senate Republicans block Democrats' voting rights legislationDemocrats are also poised to fall short Wednesday night in their effort to change the filibuster rules. Democrats try to change the rules when they can't unify anyone HAHAHHA Clown show. I’m sick and tired of these useless fools. The reality is Republicans are opposing and disrupting the passing of much-needed legislation only because they think killing those legislations would hurt Biden. They don't care a bit the chaos/crisis they're creating along the way also hurting the American people. It's sad!
