Senate confirms Dallas prosecutor Damien Diggs as first Black U.S. attorney for East Texas

The pick would be “particularly significant” in light of the 1998 murder in Jasper, when James Byrd Jr. was dragged to death, the senator said. The Eastern District covers 43 of Texas’ 254 counties. Apart from Plano and Beaumont, it includes Sherman, Tyler, Marshall and Texarkana.
