SELMA, Ala. - Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. , addressed the public Wednesday in a press conference where he discussed the reasons for his decision to place Police Chief Kenta Fulford on administrative leave for the second time in just over a year.
The mayor’s primary concern surrounded the police department’s response to Selma City Schools’ request for assistance on campus Tuesday. The mayor said Fulford said in communication with the school administration and some city councilors that the schools would be guaranteed police presence on Tuesday. However, Perkins said no Selma police officers showed up, as promised, until after threats were made toward the school.
