Griffen suggested. “Every time I see you, I’m going to ask you how you are doing, and we’ll do a formal screening assessment periodically over the course of the pregnancy. … Your job is to answer us honestly so that we can connect you with resources as soon as possible to minimize the impact on you and your baby.”, or social worker may conduct screenings and help patients who are experiencing distress, she said.
Another committee opinion suggests that doctors should have contact with a patient between 2 and 3 weeks after birth, primarily to assess for mental healthIn discussing maternal suicide statistics, Griffen focused on data from Maternal Mortality Review Two other sources of data about maternal mortality – the National Vital Statistics System and the Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System – do not include information about suicide, which may be a reason this cause of death is not discussed more often, Griffen noted.

I can deeply relate and I feel it is because of the disregard of family . Broken homes, broken women and broken families ... the sanctity of family, faithfulness and love are devalued and it’s a societal issue ... it’s more than just hormones , it’s hormones plus ....
I can understand this finding!! I was prepared for PPD, & had it & was treated for it. I didn't know anything about PPanxiety. It almost destroyed me & my family. Agree that 'once a woman asks, she needed help weeks ago!!' Mental health after pregnancy should be included in care
Very saddening on multiple levels. As a country with significant resources we owe it to new parents, esp moms, to ensure they get assistance & support needed. Even as an older parent, I found it overwhelming at times & I didn’t go through the hormonal changes. We can do better.
