The satellite imagery appeared hurricane-like, and UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain quickly set the record straight.just before 8 a.m. as steady rain was falling across the Bay Area."But the rapidly deepening low pressure center just south of San Francisco has developed a remarkably 'eye-like' feature near the center of circulation, and is bringing spiraling bands of heavy rain and gusty winds to the region.
Local meteorologist Jan Null told SFGATE that you could also refer to this area of low pressure as a cold front."It’s more of a low associated with a cold front coming out of the Gulf of Alaska," Null said over the phone. "We are seeing the full circulation of that low pressure," weather service meteorologist Miles Bliss told SFGATE just after 9 a.m."It's not uncommon. Lows can drop down along the coast. We see a couple each year. The low pressure itself draws in the moisture and wraps it along the low. That’s what's happening right now. Most importantly, low pressure brings winds, which is the big threat with this storm.
