Seattle Councilmember Rob Saka has organized a community meeting to discuss the pressing issue of public safety.

In this special, Angela Brown explains our partnership with Feeding America for the "Sinclair Cares: Summer Hunger Relief" campaign.that claimed the life of a 22-year-old near Alki Beach ,

The council member said the gathering was a chance to open up dialogue between city officials and residents shaken by the recent violence.Alongside Saka, interim Police Chief Sue Rahr and citywide councilmember Tanya Woo were part of the selection of leaders attending the event at Alki United Church of Christ.

"The gun violence playing out on our streets in unacceptable. It’s time for us to come together as a city and put a stop to it. Every enduring solution starts with an honest conversation," Saka said. "That’s why I’m bringing our community and a diverse group of city leaders together. We need short and long-term strategies to ensure Alki is a safe and welcoming for everyone."

During the weekend shooting, a 27-year-old was also shot and transported to the hospital, and homes nearby were also struck by gunfire.Other city leaders slated to speak at the community meeting include Natalie Walton-Anderson, Director of Public Safety from the Mayor’s Office; AP Diaz, Superintendent of Seattle Parks and Recreation; Francisca Stefan, Senior Deputy Director; and Venu Nemani, Chief Safety Officer, both from the Seattle Department of Transportation.

Members from the Seattle Police Department will also be present to participate in the conversation and listen to the concerns of their community.
