“After yet another tragic mass shooting, Seattle is uniting on Gun Violence Awareness Day to stand up and demand action and to stand with survivors and impacted communities. We cannot allow this tragedy to continue to be the norm,” said Mayor Bruce Harrell.
Wear Orange, Gun Violence Awareness Day stemmed from the death of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who was shot at a playground in Chicago a week after she marched in President Barack Obama’s second inaugural parade. Her friends and neighbors honored her life by wearing orange and telling her story. Wear Orange, Gun Violence Awareness Day began on June 2, 2015, the day Pendleton would have turned 18.
“Since then, this campaign has spread across the nation to raise awareness about gun violence and honor the lives of gun violence victims,” a news release from the City of Seattle said.At events in the Central District, Skyway and Kent on Friday, the Regional Peacekeepers Collective and the Seattle Community Safety Initiative Partners will raise awareness, hand out gun safety equipment and educate the community.10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
You can make all the rules and regulations that you want. Does no good when the judges release almost every criminal. How many of the recent crimes are from repeat offenders? The city doesn’t care about the victims.
People all ready recognize it. Except for the ones that's doing the shooting and killings. We need to put a face on the problem and work from there

Students in Seattle and around the state stage protests over gun violenceDozens of high school and middle school students in Seattle and Olympia staged protests Wednesday in the wake of a mass shooting that left 19 elementary school children and two teachers dead last week at a school in Uvalde, Texas. In Seattle, several students took their protest to Seattle City Hall as they chanted and held signs outside the building. The students also observed a moment of silence before expressing concern about the possibility of gun violence on school campuses. Another “summer of love” incoming? Ah yes. We should listen to children on complex issues. It’s one things to ask for more security around a school to protect themselves but another to protest guns. Stop being pawns and think for yourselves kids. Every one of them should be expelled for cutting classes. Protests are not part of the curricula we paid to be taught. Any teacher taking part should be suspended/fired.
