Season ticket deposits open for sale after NHL announces Utah is getting its own team

The Smith Entertainment Group has been awarded a new NHL franchise by the league's Board of Governors on Thursday, April 18, 2024, bringing the highest level of professional hockey to Utah. A deposit for $100 per seat may be placed to secure tickets to see Utah's new NHL team play their first season at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City in the fall of 2024.

The ticket sales went live after the NHL announced Thursday that Utah will be getting its own hockey team. The new team will not be the Arizona Coyotes — though it will be made up of the players, draft picks, reserve list and other assets from the Coyotes — but rather, it will be a formation of a newly branded team.“We are committed to building a Stanley Cup contending team and are thrilled to welcome incredible players, coaches, staff, and their families to Utah," a statement from Ryan and Ashley Smith said.

That reactivation will come when "owner Alex Meruelo has fully constructed a new, state-of-the-art facility appropriate for an NHL team within five years," the NHL said. A press conference to delve more into the matter is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. at the Delta Center - the home of Salt Lake City's now senior professional sports team, the Utah Jazz.
