Higher than expected costs were cited in rejecting bids to construct a new 400-student school as part of Jersey City's SciTech Scity project.

Amy Lin-Rodriguez, superintendent of the Hudson County Schools of Technology, speaks during the groundbreaking ceremony for Liberty Science Center High School in Jersey City on Monday, May 1, 2023. Students are heading into summer break soon, but the Hudson County agency overseeing development of the new Liberty Science Center High School is heading back to the drawing board this summer to scale back the project after failing to find a construction contractor that fits its budget.

The Hudson County Improvement Authority , the designated developer, is expected to reject bids from four different contractors for the 400-student school and authorize trimming amenities from the project “as deemed necessary.” If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
