Scientists in South Africa tracking the spread of Omicron say they are seeing a rise in coronavirus reinfections in people who had recovered from Covid-19, suggesting previous infection provides reduced protection against the new variant

say they are seeing a rise in coronavirus reinfections in people who had recovered from Covid-19, suggesting previous infection provides less protection against the new variant than with earlier versions.

“Previous infection used to protect against Delta, and now with Omicron it doesn’t seem to be the case,” Professor Anna Von Gottberg from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in Johannesburg said Thursday.

It’s irrelevant unless the symptoms are severe. Coronaviruses have been around for many years and most of them cause relatively minor symptoms. Many people had a coronavirus and never knew it. If the Omicron variant follows the normal trend, then it’s not even news.

Symptoms include being tired, runny nose and possibly a sneeze, close down the world asap

Sounds like vaccination can help protect and save lives and likely hospitalization and needless suffering.

What is the fatality rate though? Just catching a covid cold is not justification to lock down countries. Omicron hysteria = Moronic

what they're trying to say is actually:

Omicron is a super high tech variant. & Unlike anything that came before it. It's a metamorphosis of Covid-19, but 500x more potent. It will reinfect those who've already had Delta, as well as those who r boosted. Omicron has so many mutations, it's driving scientists crazy!!

Nobody believes anything the MSM says anymore.....Wsj used to be respectable when you covered WALL STREET

So wouldn’t a vaccine provide about the same protection (none)?

So the antivaxxers' much touted 'natural immunity'...yeah, not so much.

And what do other scientists say

We are so scared!!!

Not to mention the fact it likely depends on how long ago they had contracted Covid, because it has been known that antibody protection for viruses like the flu fade over time, hence the need for shots/boosters to keep the immune system primed.

scientists saying that kind of conclusion,, trump also can say what LOL

so its just like the 'vacines'?

These click bait headlines are annoying- this is the SAME TRUTH when it comes to the Influenza vaccine- you can still catch the damn flu if you get your shot. “NEW” variant = you can still get it ! Shocking- NO!!!

This is why letting Covid-19 spread and accepting the death rate doesn't actually work. It mutates as it spreads, so, even if you were okay getting it, you have no idea if you will be okay getting one of these mutations. But I guess we just have to do everything the hard way.

it's not that bad, as long as the disease remains mild even when catched by vulnerable people 🤷‍♂️

Jajajaja really ? The fully vaxc …….

Natural immunity doesn't pay literally 🤣

:( Didn’t that also—sorry—reducing some side of your sense(s) and intelligence?

The anti science club won't believe you anyway

South Africa considers vaccine mandates as omicron cases spiralAfter first identifying the omicron Covid-19 variant, South Africa is bracing for a fourth wave of infections. Since they have a low vaccination rate (35.6%) and people refusing vax, mandate only way to go imo.
