Armstrong Williams takes on the news of the week and asks the questions you want answered. Don't miss our weekly town hall.a one room schoolhouse in Johnstown has been added to the National School Registry by the Country School Association of America. It is the first Ohio school to receive this designation.
Originally located near St. Alban's Township, the schoolhouse was operational until 1923 when the state of Ohio started to consolidate school districts. It then functioned as a farm storage building until it was purchased by a nonprofit group in 1987 and moved to its current location at 453 S. Main St. in Johnstown.
Nowadays, Cornell School offers field trips for students which allow them to 'travel back in time' and experience what education at a one room schoolhouse would have been like for one day. To qualify for the National School Registry, a school building must be at least 50 years old, well-maintained, and must have been restored, renovated, or reconstructed to retain their initial design's historical integrity.
