At Canyon School District, four schools serve free breakfast and lunch to kids and teens up to 18 years old — even kids who don't attend schools in the district are welcome.Sebasthian Varas, nutrition services director for CSD, said the summer meals are funded by a grant from USDA. Varas said many children show up for both breakfast and lunch. For some whose parents are experiencing heavy financial hardship, the free meals are critical and may be the main meals of the day.
