Smokey Robinson On New Music, Motown, George Harrison And More

Robinson: I don't know that there was a moment. I've been working on it now for about 45 years and there's one song on there that I've had that I was gonna record many, many years ago, about 20 years ago really. And I just put it aside because I wasn't really doing an original material album at that time. I was almost thinking a hiatus from the studio or something, but I kept it.

Baltin: At what point as an artist did you learn to let go of the perfectionism, 'cause as an artist, you always wanna do the best you can, but sometimes as an artist, you'll drive yourself crazy thinking of the things you could have done differently? Bava: I'm wondering more about your yoga practice. I know you said you don't do transcendental meditation anymore, but do you have your own routine that you have done for yourself?

Robinson: Well, sometimes, Steve, I do, I shake my head and say,"Wow." I do, man, because I'm very blessed. I'm living a life that I absolutely love. I'm earning a living doing something that I absolutely love and that I look forward to going to my job. [laughter] So that's a blessing.
