Lake Korte-Moore, selected third overall by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Tuesday’s CFL Draft, is undefeated playing at Mosaic Stadium.

“I can’t wait to get to work and get to Saskatchewan with the great fan base that they have there,” said Korte-Moore. “I’m just going to go in and be the player that I am and wherever the team needs me to play, I will play.”Jaxon Ford, a defensive back from the Regina Rams“With the legacy of my grandfather and me coming here too, this is a real proud moment for my family and I,” said Ford. “Since nine-years-old, it’s been a dream of mine .

Last season, Ford was named a Canada West All-Star and U Sports second-team All-Canadian. In 29 career games with the Rams, Ford recorded 130 tackles, 11 pass knockdowns and five interceptions. And the family doesn’t only have a rich history with the Riders, but a personal connection to O’Day, who was recruited to Saskatchewan during free agency in 1999 by the general manager at the time, Al Ford.

In the sixth round, O’Day took a gamble, selecting Eastern Michigan offensive lineman Sidy Sow, who was recently selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. In the eighth round, the Green and White also took another fourth-round NFL draft pick in defensive lineman Tavius Robinson. It’s not likely either player will be in Saskatchewan anytime soon, but that didn’t deter O’Day from making the selections.

“It’s tough to say if you’re ever going to see them,” said O’Day. “At that point , we thought the risk was worth it.The Riders also selected Queen’s offensive lineman Evan Floren and Manitoba linebacker Nick Thomas in the seventh round, giving the team eight new prospects – six who will likely be attending rookie camp – which runs May 10-12 in Saskatoon.

“Overall, we feel good about the draft,” concluded O’Day. “We like physical football players and we felt like we added some of those guys in the draft who fit that mold.”
