We don’t have much turnover. We’re pretty cohesive from last year, which is good. But we also can’t be complacent with that as well.”

Photo taken in Saskatoon, Sask. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.Flory noted that 62 players from last year are returning to this year’s current 90-man roster, including the core of the starters. Nine of last year’s 12 starters on offence are back while 10 of 12 on defence return.
One big area of change for the Huskies will be at quarterback. They graduated last year’s conference MVP Mason Nyhus, who set the all-time single-season Huskie passing record last season. While that record may not be challenged again this year, Flory feels third-year quarterback Anton Amundrud is ready to step up as their new starter.
“We’ve been grooming Anton and it’s just a matter of getting him comfortable and getting reps,” said Flory. “We’re not asking him to do more than he is capable of, or comfortable doing. We’ve got a lot of pieces around him. We’ve got lots of running backs, receivers, all that kind of stuff, a ton of talent around him. There was an error, please provide a valid email address.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
