said around 11 a.m., two 16-year-old juniors walked into an art class and subsequently got into an argument with a 15-year-old freshman. The interaction escalated into a physical fight. The teacher and three aides broke up the fight for a short period, but the students eventually resumed fighting. Twenty-seven other students were in the classroom at the time.
A police officer attempted “life saving efforts” when they arrived at the scene before the injured students were taken to a local hospital. One 16-year-old male suffered a single stab wound but is expected to survive his injuries, while the other 16-year-old male, Jayden Jess Pienta, had"at least three stab wounds and was pronounced dead at a local hospital," SRPD said.
"Our officers scoured that area and were able to locate a 15-year-old juvenile who was hiding in the creek bed there, who was laying down on his stomach, trying to conceal himself,” Cregan said. “Officers slowed down, they used restraint, they didn't use any force, and they were safely able to take this young man into custody."
