San Francisco police seek permission for its robots to use deadly force

, initially pushed back against the use of force requirements, inserting “Robots shall not be used as a Use of Force against any person," into the policy language. The SFPD removed that wording in a subsequent draft, which I as a lifelong San Francisco resident did not know was something that they could just do. The three-member Rules Committee, which Peskin chairs, then unanimously approved that draft and advanced it to the full Board of Supervisors for a vote on November 29th.

The police force currently maintains a dozen fully-functional remote-controlled robots, which are typically used for area inspections and bomb disposal. However,, they make excellent bomb delivery platforms as well.

We live in the worst timeline

Watch the people wreck that shit. Sledgehammer time.

“PISS DETECTED” Mows down an entire homeless caravan

Does it carry wet wipes for the homeless?

But, will it make the money the evil corporation who builds them intend to make, or will it shoot a rando and force big tech to stretch some ludicrous narrative into my frontal lobe that it’s my right wing-conservative fault that it came to this?

at least robots aren't racist /s

This bad…

'What could possibly go wrong'?

Cool, they want to start an arms race against citizens? I'll bet the entirety of citizens are smarter.

Johnny 5 … no disassemble.

Permission denied Deadly force violates the rules of robots.

Absolutely nothing bad could result from this.

Democrats had so many bad influence from Communist China's authoritarianism.

i.e. Fascist Democrat-Run San Francisco: 'Screw due-process! Just execute this eye-sore. We'll find ways to spread the blame around since we don't need to send an actual cop to do that.'

Looks like free guns on wheels if you ask me

that should take care of the homeless population

If I were a SFPD officer, I'd be 100% for letting the robots do the deadly force stuff. Who is going to fire or sue a robot?

I did not think police would be next to lose their jobs to automation 😂

🤦🏽‍♀️

🤯🤯🤯

Police brutality about to get automated. Robots will get hacked. It’ll be fine.

At least Americans will have now something to throw petrol bombs at 👍🔥

Robo cop?

Very excited to have landmines all over our streets

How about no

Um hackers would probably take over their bots

I saw that movie. It didn't end well.

Permission denied.

hard no. but the nerds run that city so, ya know, not looking good

Skynet...

'A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.' - Isaac Asimov

😮‍💨 NotTheOnion

Does any other city have this policy?

And when your opponents also get their hands on killing machines? Would the “nuclear option” be next in line? In spite of any potential “collateral damage”? Maybe using “brains” before “brawn” could be a viable alternative going forward? Or is thought now ruled out? 😱

great idea, this can't possibly go wrong

Judging by current tactics we all know “outweighs any other force option” means “we will use this before considering any other force option because we don’t know any other way of resolving a situation “
