San Diego es actualmente el corredor más transitado para los cruces fronterizos irregulares

Muchas noches, cientos de migrantes pasan a través de los postes de un muro fronterizo o lo trepan valiéndose de escaleras metálicas. Se reúnen en una zona intermedia entre dos muros con vistas a las luces nocturnas de la ciudad mexicana de Tijuana, aguardando horas a los agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza mientras voluntarios les reparten café caliente, sopa instantánea y vendas para rodillas lastimadas y tobillos hinchados.

Personas de casi 100 nacionalidades han llegado al aeropuerto de Tijuana este año, incluidas 12.000 de Colombia y una cifra igual de Cuba, unas 6.000 de Haití y una cifra igual de Venezuela, y miles más de Brasil, Ecuador, Perú, China y Mauritania. “Es la incidencia de las redes sociales”, dijo Paul Beeson, cuya carrera de 33 años en la Patrulla Fronteriza incluyó períodos como jefe de los sectores de San Diego, Tucson y Yuma, Arizona.
