Sam Quarles, Logan Noguchi, Kathryn Hazle among the local athletes who could challenge for crowns at Fresno's Clovis West High School

Coronado High School senior Sam Quarles repeatedly set San Diego Section swim records at this year’s section meet. Now he’s looking to do so again at the State Championships.

Also coming off a record-setting showing in the section meet, Torrey Pines junior Logan Noguchi has the third seed in the 100 butterfly . Plus he’s seeded third in the 100 back with a time just off his section record from last year. La Jolla junior Arielle Brotman is seeded third in the girls 100 fly and fifth in the 100 breast . A year ago, she placed eighth in the 200 IM .The following San Diego-area swimmers will take part in Saturday’s State Swim Championships today through Saturday at Clovis West High School. Qualifiers were determined by the best times overall from the Division I and II section finals. Alternates were designated as appropriate.200 MR: Mt. Carmel 1:45.27, San Marcos 1:45.84, Del Norte 1:46.

100 free: Hardin 51.15, Mullica 52.00, Yang 52.20, Esposito 53.06, A. Rowe 53.34, Schafer 53.36.
