“Yesterday afternoon our Animal Care team had to make the difficult decision to euthanize our beloved Lucky, the Asian elephant,” zoo officials said WednesdayIt was not immediately clear why the 62-year-old elephant had been put down. Zoo officials said the elephant “passed away quietly” and “under the loving care and comfort of her veterinarians and animal care staff.
“Lucky will be missed by all her caretakers, visitors to the zoo, and our entire community,” officials said. “Lucky had a wonderful and warm personality – she often preferred being with her keepers than with other elephants. She was known for her sweetness, appreciation of affection, and gentle demeanor.”
